Measurement of Total Air Entrainment, Disentrainment and Net Entrainment Flow Rates Utilizing Novel Downcomer Incorporating Al-Anzi’s Disentrainment Ring (ADR) in a Confined Plunging Jet Reactor

Plunging liquid jet reactor (PLJR) has gained popularity as a feasible and efficient aerator mixer. However, the measurement of air disentrainment rate (Qads), which affects aeration performance, been overlooked by many researchers. In this work, newly invented Al-Anzi ring (ADR) device was incorporated in CPLJR to experimentally measure Qads its effect on net entrainment rate. Furthermore, new variables (lADR ds) old (Lj VL) Qanet were also investigated. Results showed that shorter ds lADR produced higher for same ADR device. A velocity at impingement point (VLnet) measured about 651 cm/s, above bubbles left base downcomer Qanet. increased linearly with VL; however, until it reached maximum value, then decreased. Bubble penetration depth rise height all VL they maximum, leveled off lADR. significant increase values achieved comparison conventional one. The be approximately 2.5–15 times standalone downcomer.
